ScientistPetersonestimatedthatpenguinsweretakingdaystomaketheroundtriptotheseatofish,andthenbacktotheirneststoregurgitate(反刍)foodfortheirchicks.
“Atthatpointtheywerequitetiredandprobablydon'thavemuchtoregurgitate,”hesaid.Penguinsalreadyhavelongoddsonreachingadulthood,withonly10percentsurvivingbeyondadolescence(青春期).
“Weareprobablylookingathalvingthatagainwearesittingdownatmaybethefivepercentrate,”Petersonsaid,addingsomepenguinsalreadyappearedtobeleavingtheRossIslandtobreedelsewhere.
Penguinscomeashoretobreedandthentakeitinturnstoleavethenesttofetchfishandotherseafoodtofeedtheiryoung.
